Here’s the announcement (original available here):
NACA Consumer Law Fellowship Program with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid
The National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) is offering a 2-year consumer law fellowship to recent law school graduates who are expected to sit for the July 2024 Florida Bar exam and be admitted to practice in the state at the outset of their employment. This inaugural fellowship is designed to help NACA develop an annual program that encourages and supports new lawyers in their introduction to the practice of consumer law and builds a pathway for their future success.
During the two years of the program, the fellow will be an employee of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA). While JALA has a fully hybrid workspace, the fellow will be expected to be available for in-person meetings, hearings, depositions and mediations and reside in the Northeast Florida area during the first year. During this year, the fellow will work in the consumer protection unit of JALA and represent the program’s low-income clients.
In the second year, the fellow will be assigned to two different Florida based private consumer protection law firms (for six months each), where they will continue to represent clients, grow their skills as consumer lawyers and learn the challenges and rewards of the practice of consumer law in a private law setting. The fellow will be expected to continue their residency in Florida during this year so that they can regularly attend in-person meetings, hearings, depositions and mediations. During their time in the program, the fellow will work with and be mentored by experienced Legal Aid and private consumer attorneys and will receive free NACA membership, access to all our consumer law trainings and scholarships for NACA-NCLC in-person educational conferences.
Starting salary is $65,000 + full benefits.
The deadline for applying is June 1, 2024. If you have any questions, please contact us at fellowship@consumeradvocates.org.
