Manufacturers’ groups issue (de)regulatory wishlist

The LA Times has published a December 5 letter from dozens of manufacturing and other industry trade associations to the incoming administration, providing a wishlist of “regulatory actions that will set the stage for industrial growth in the United States.” Although the list mostly demands a laissez faire approach to business, the coalition acknowledged “that regulations can have benefits…: manufacturers depend on balanced, workable rules of the road and the regulatory certainty that comes with them.”

Requested “asks” of particular interest to consumer advocates include rollbacks of rules regarding the use of various chemicals in consumer products, the rescission of energy efficiency standards, and the abandonment of CPSC regulation, shifting instead to a regime of “voluntary standards and enhanced industry engagement.”
