Big Tech continues drive to override state AI laws

The news this week is the ongoing Big Tech campaign seeking a federal law to preempt state regulations on artificial intelligence. As reported, some members of Congress are attempting to push an AI preemption provision in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a must-pass federal bill. The provision would block state laws from regulating the technology. State and local groups have already voiced strong opposition to this action. In addition, the U.S. president reportedly was expected to issue an executive order that would launch federal resources to challenge state AI laws. Earlier this year, following massive public opposition from state lawmakers, state attorneys general, public interest groups, and others, Big Tech failed in their last crusade to thwart states’ work on AI.
